• SULI: Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships Science and Engineering paid internships at any of several Department of Energy facilities for students to work with scientists or engineers on projects related to the laboratories' research programs.
• SOARS: Significant Opportunities in Atmospheric Research and Science Four-year program for undergraduate students from underrepresented minority backgrounds interested in careers in the atmospheric and related sciences. Established by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) through partnership with NSF and support from DOE, NOAA, and NASA.

• IMSD: Initiative for Minority Student Development MBRS Program Institutional grant mechanism to encourage the development and/or expansion of innovative programs to improve the academic and research competitiveness of underrepresented students of color at the undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral levels and to facilitate their progress toward careers in biomedical research.

Special Minority Initiatives

• Bridges to the Baccalaureate Degree:Institutional grant mechanism aimed at helping students make the transition from 2-year junior or community colleges to full 4-year baccalaureate programs.
• Minority International Research Training (MIRT) Program:These grants are designed to offer research-training opportunities to qualified eligible students and faculty to participate in international biomedical and behavioral research programs abroad. Undergraduate student participation is about 75%.
